Hi all

I'd appreciate any help or advice about this as I'm really at my wits end, trying to figure what I should do with this issue.

Since I was a teenager, I've always had a problem with my right ankle. I've never broken, strained or sprained it so there is no previous injury. It's a sharp pain that seems to come from inside the ankle joint itself and hurts the most if I point my ankle downwards. Over the years the pain has come and gone periodically and is normally linked to a change of job or lifestyle such as going from a sedantary job to being on my feet all day. Previously for the first couple of weeks the ankle would be fine when I move about but as soon as I rested and got up to walk, there would be pain in the ankle causing me to limp for a few minutes. Once the joint had warmed up the pain would go away. When the joint got used to being on my feet all day this would disappear.

Recently however since changing from an active job to an office job, the pain has reappeared but this time its constant and does seem to want to go away. Recently I started to go to the gym to get fit for my new job which involves physical work. The ankle seemed to get better and I thought it may be due to a muscle imbalance/weak muscles dues to lack of exercise but now this last week the pain has come back and it's affecting my running.

There is no swelling, bruising and I was tested for gout about 5 years ago and came up negative. I really don't know if I should go and see a podiatrist, physio or both?

Any advice please

ps. I was referred to physio 5 years ago as the docs coundn't find anything wrong with me and by the time I got to the physio the pain had gone away so he thought I was wasting his time!!!
