Painful hip in 12 year old girl - any clues?
Hello, my 12 year old is a keen trampolinist and over 3 weeks ago she got up out of a chair and had an excruciating pain in her left hip. She saw the GP the next day and was given anti inflammatories which didn't begin to touch the pain. The next GP sent her for a hip x-ray which came back clear. The next GP sent her for blood tests which all came back clear. Yesterday the pain was so bad we went to A&E and all sorts of doctors with different specialities had a look at her. There was still no diagnosis and they decided to send her to the fracture clinic next week. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are off on holiday (quite an active holiday with walking, swimming etc) and I am desperate for advice on whether she should be active or not, what pain killers might actually work etc..
I am wondering whether it might, after all, be a soft tissue injury which is causing hip pain mainly on the left with sharp shooting pains sometimes? The doctors have not mentioned it but I'm wondering whether to pay to see a physio for advice before we go away.
By the end of the day she is usually crying with the pain and is normally a fit and healthy girl. She has been taking co-codamol and diclofenic but now refuses them as they don't work.
If it was a soft tissue injury would inflammation have shown up in the blood tests? I realise tissue wouldn't have shown on the x-ray but they haven't done a scan so I'm wondering.
Any ideas, I'm really desperate?
Thanks for reading
