Re: Painful hip in 12 year old girl - any clues?

    dear Sarannie,

Muhammad asked for the exact location and this is an important question.
Pain felt in de middle of the groin indicates that something is wrong in the hip joint area and pain felt at the side of the buttuck is often more muscle-tendon and/or bursa related.

It could be a number of things such as soft tissue injury, bursitis, fracture. It is unusual that it started without any reason. Are you sure she didnīt hurt herself? Did she fall or stumble, did she land incorrectly? I think it is very important to realize that pain is a sign that should not be ignored especially is she is limping as well. A fractuur is sometimes missed in the case of children because of the growth plates. Having this checked is not a bad idea.

Untill the diagnosis is clear I would suggest that your daughter do as little as possible to aggrevate the pain.

    I wish you all well.

    Esther
