    Brief Medical History Overview

    Question Bimalleolar fracture ankle

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Help please!! Approx. 4 yrs. ago I had quite a bad fall and suffered a Bimalleolar fracture in my right ankle. I had a plate with 6 pins inserted on the oouter side of my ankle and a screw of some sort on the inner side just at the ankle bone. With the last week i have been suffering quite a lot of pain and had to attend accident and emergency to have x-rays taken. These showed quite a lot of swelling but no other fractures or movement of the plate, pins etc... I have been prescribed anti-biotics as i have been told it is PROBABLY an infection.. However if this so called infection does not clear up i was told removal of the plate and pins may be necessary.... I am hoping that maybe somebody could help me by explaining it properly to me please??? The medication i am taking does not seem to be working as the pain is still quite severe and i have been taking them for 5 days...

    Re: Bimalleolar fracture ankle

The most important measure is limb elevation.

Kindly keep your leg over a pillow to elevate it from the rest of the body while sleeping and while sitting.

If your ankle is red, warm, and paining, it means an infection is present.
You probably need higher antibiotics and better measures of reducing your swelling like specific tablets against swelling along with pain killers.
like serratiopeptidase, or chymotrypsin (check local brands in your area)

This is very important, because increased swelling can lead to compartment syndrome and destroy the muscles and soft tissues of your leg.

Implant removal may help you but in this acute stage of infection first you need to control infection and inflammation or else the surgical procedure can cause cellulitis and non healing ulcer.
