    Brief Medical History Overview

is physio required after broken leg

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
hi my daughter broke her thigh bone at start of summer, was in cast for five weeks, has been out of it for three and half weeks now. she started walking on it after about five days, but her leg was very stiff and foot turned out. her foot looks alot straighter now but she is still limping and her leg is still quite stiff but is better than what it was. should i go to doctors and maybe get her some physiotherapy or how long does it take to get full mobility back in her leg. my daughter is 2 and 1/2 years old. thanks

Re: is physio required after broken leg

i am not that worried cause it has improved and the way i see it is i cant expect her to be back to normal after only 3 weeks but its everyone else that keeps saying to me is she still limping. i was gong to leave it to maybe 6 weeks off before i brought her if no better.

    dear Josene,

The only way to answer you question is by your telling us a little more...

    - how old is your daughter?
    - what type of fracture (there are many types)?
    - was the fracture in the joint or outside the joint?

only then can we give you a reasonable reaction.

    Esther

Re: is physio required after broken leg

my daughter is 2yrs 7 months. the doc said the bone didnt actually break like it would in an older person, more of a bend. it happened just above her knee close to the joint. they said she could have extra bone growth due to were it is but didnt xray her again just said they were leaving it up to me if there was any problems.

    Hi Jolene,

In this case it was probably a greenstick fracture.
These usually heal very well. A fracture need time to heal, at least 6 weeks for the initial healing.
Your child shouldn't really limp anymore after this periode.
A young childs bone's are forever growing and tend to heal well.

It is possible that the fractured limb will grow faster than the other and the the other will catch up at a later stage.
I think your doctor's advice to come back if you do not trust how things go is wise advice. Xrays should be kept to a minimum.

    I wish you both well

    esther
