    Brief Medical History Overview

Knee injuries, ACL, PCL and MCL

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
5 weeks ago I had an accident and landed very heavily on the inside of my left knee. Went to hospital who x-rayed and said nothing broken, if I was still in pain in approximately one month go back to my GP and go from there. After three weeks I went to the GP as I was unable to either straighten or bend my knee. I had an Wikipedia reference-linkMRI results were:

    1. Partial tear of the proximal ACL and proximal to mid PCL.
    2. Full thickness (Grade III) tear of the proximal MCL and a tear of the medial infrapatellar retinaculum.
    3. Bone bruises in both medial and lateral femoral conyles and posterolateral tibial plateau.
    4. Mild sprain of the posterolateral corner structure.
    5. Partial tear of the proximal belly of the lateral gastrocnemius muscle.

I am now in a brace and have just started physio. Get into the ortho surgeon in three weeks time. I am hoping I don't need surgery - as I am not an elite athlete the GP said he doubts I will - but he said I should have been put in a cast at the start so he isn't sure. Have some basic physio exercises to do in the brace (only take brace off for shower - under orders).

Does anyone know if it is safe to do a lot walking in the brace - unfortunately they closed down the bus stop near my house so I have to walk for 20 mins to catch bus, then another 15 to get to work, and the same on the way home. Is this ok - I can't ask the physio until Monday - after I am already at work.

    Thanks for any help.

Re: Knee injuries, ACL, PCL and MCL

That is a lot of walking to do when you have that amount of condylar bruising and other injuries. The brace will support it a lot, but still 70 minutes per day is probably too much at this stage.
Don't worry about being told you should have been in a cast, yes you should have been put in a brace with limited ROM early, but not a cast.
I think you will need to get a ride or a taxi for a bit longer sorry.
