Recommend a Physio in Leeds who can help with dizziness

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
My 17 yr old niece has been diagnosed with labryinthitis by her GP, she has been suffering with it for 4 weeks. Her GP has given her anti-emetics and referred her to an ENT specialist, but in the meantime I would like to help her cope with the dizziness.

I have read that there are a number of ways in which a patient can desensitize themselves to the vertigo and think a physio or other manual therapist could help her learn these, and also give her other coping strategies.

Therefore pleae can I ask for recommendations for Physio's in Leeds or the Leeds area who may have an interest in dizziness.

    Thanks

Re: Recommend a Physio in Leeds who can help with dizziness

I don't know anyone in Leeds but this website has some good resources and the approach that I use to treat patients is here:

    Gaze Stabilization Exercises

I get people to do them for 2 mins, 5x per day, fast enough to provoke a little symptoms but not to make you horribly unwell. Start with a plain background, then use a patterned teatowel, and then move on to marching.

    Good luck finding someone

Meclazine helps me deal with the dizziness, but it only works for a few months. You need to get to the root cause. If she wakes with vertigo then perhaps part of the problem is positional vertigo. Recommend you see an ENT who knows how to do the Epley Maneuver. Don't try this without an MD present the first time. Here's an example of one method.. YouTube - ‪Epley's maneuver‬‏
