Hi,
As you know the fractrued bone needs to be immobilized to hasten recovery. The lateral mallelous is the non weight bearing part of the bone so a tiny crack / fracture can be easily missed besides some discomfort or pain while stressful activities like running or jogging. However its an important part as its the site for ligamnet attacment. Therefore if it has not healed, it needs to be surgically corrected by fixing a screw and hastening recovery. It would take anywhere betwen 6-8 weeks before you can resume dancing/ running. A good physiotherapy protocol following surgery should ensure complete recovery and pre injury status of your ankle.
The fracture did not unite on its own as tehre was no proximity between the broken ends. When the fractured bones are kept in the plaster cast, the broken ends of the bone are brought together in proximity to each other and then immobolized, thats how fractyres recover, which did not happen in your case. This does not indicate calcium deficiency.
