    Question Hamstring test

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
What is the most effective method for testing a weak hamstring? I have been told by one physio to have the client sit on the edge of the couch and try to straighten the leg while I counter push against the shin, and another said to have the client lay face down and counter push against the lower leg while they try to bend it. Who is right?

    Re: Hamstring test

If done that way round when seated you would be testing the quads. They would need to resist you straightening the leg to work the Hamstrings i.e pulling into flexion. Both are correct ways of testing the muscles though. I would normally choose to have them lying prone as I find I can test them more easily through the whole range.
