I have recently been having muscle pain between my shoulder blades. It is the worst when I sleep and improves as the day goes on. The problem seemed to come on recently after doing pull downs. I noticed the tightness and made it worse by stretching too much.
My history is as follows. I dislocated my shoulder 15 years ago and never rehabbed it properly. This has lead to muscle imbalances across my shoulders and back. I have noticed that my erector spinae is considerably weaker on the left side as well. When this wakes me up in the night I roll up both sides of my spine with a tennis ball and that loosens it up enough to get back to sleep. Any help is appreciated.>>

Off hand i would consider a trigger point in your serratus anterior muscle though sometimes it's the rhomoids . If the tennis ball helps that's a good sign . It's often caused by poor posturing . So .....make sure your sleeping with ONE GOOD PILLOW . Then check your daily activity especially your workspace and amount of downward head posturing (ie reading etc ). A trained therapist who has expertise in manual therapy and ergonimics is a great combination to look for if things dont get better .
