    Ruptured ACL 12 months on

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi, 12 months ago I ruptured my ACL in my left knee playing football. After having, X-rays, MRI scans completed I finally went in and had an arthroscopy back In may of this year. During this procedure the doctor discovered that my acl was ruptured (when he thought from the MRI that it was just torn). During the procedure the ACl was reattached to the PCL.

After surgery I asked the doctor about resuming playing football again. He said that with intensive physio it is possible to strengthen the knee without the need for ACL reconstruction. Having been discharged from the physio this week and being advised that I would be ok to play football.

After doing extensive research into ACL ruptures, it's seems that reconstruction seems to always be the answer to be able to resume playing football. Am I just being fobbed off with the answers I have been given or is it possible to play without reconstruction. Would a knee brace assist me in doing this?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

If you are a hobby type footballer, maybe bracing would assist you to hobble about and not have surgery. Anything more than that and you'd need a reconstruction. As for attaching the ACL to the PCL, well that is a waste of time in my book (personal opinion).
