Hello Folks,

new member/first time poster looking for any pointers if there are any . . . . . . brief history -

Had a bad fall last august and sustained and open compound fracture to the left tibia and fibula complicated by water (I was on a river at the time)......
I am now very much on the mend after about 6 months as a total, 4 months+ spent in a Taylor Spatial frame and having had a gracilis muscle flap/donor muscle/artery and a skin graft done.
I had the frame removed a few days ago and am in a Deltacast below knee cast for 4 weeks.

My question is, how soon will I be able to drive after the cast is removed ?? (as I will effectively be 'fixed' as far as I'm concerned)
Ideally I'd like to drive within a couple of days as I will need to go back to hospital to be seen by the plastics department and I'll struggle for a lift as I've been ferried there by my sister so far and besides not wanting to keep putting on her by asking, I'm chomping at the bit to get behind the wheel (it's manual).
I've got a very big garden and have actually drove the car round it with the frame on weeks ago! Couldn't resist trying with a strap on sandal over the cast and managed that too, I've kept off the roads for common sense reasons, hard as it's been . . . . .

So considering I managed to drive before/during the cast, I'm figuring surely once it's off it's only a matter of days for me to feel roadworthy, I won't be breaking any laws and
should be considered fit to drive even my my orthopaedic surgeon?? Is it a try it and see thing? Surely so long as I allow extra time for if I feel the need to take a break (it's 70+miles) and take it easy I should be ok ?? I'm full weight bearing and have been for weeks (about 6) and am walking fine albeit with a slight hobble due to the uneven nature of my footwear ! (cast and sandle!)

Any thoughts or recommendations please ???
