    Knee Problems

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi, I feel a bit bad about joining this board solely for advice ha, so sorry in advance.

Anyways... yesterday I was watching a movie at home. I was sort of laying on my sofa with my knees partially bent. When I finished the movie at about 12:30 I got up and my left knee felt really awkward. There was nothing else, just felt a bit awkward. I thought nothing of it and carried on with my day. It graually started feeling more and more awkward - I left for school at 3:00 and when I got back at 5:00 it was visibly swollen and by 6:00 I had to walk with a limp since my I couldn't fully straighten it.. It carried on like this all evening - I had to stand with my leg bent if I wanted to stand still. I woke up with morning and it was still the same as before. There is no pain whatsoever, when I try and straighten it it just feels like there's something in the way, it doesn't hurt at all.

I don't want to go to the doctor since it only happened yesterday and they'll likely only give me some pills and tell me to rest. My knees are very important to me since I'm good enough to play basketball at Uni next year and possibly even carry on after that, so if there's any chance this is serious I want to get it checked out ASAP.

Thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help me, if you need more details just ask. I don't have any idea exactly when it happened though

    Re: Knee Problems

    Hi!

I'm a physio an also a basketball player, so I think I know what is your problem. There is a problem with your meniscus, so you should got to see a doctor. Until then rest and ice it at least 5 times a day (20mins).

Hi, since it did not happen with sport or accident, it is not likely to be a meniscal tear but more likely to be misplaced meniscus, try to relocate it by sitting with your knee at 90 degrees and turn your foot outso it twists at the knee. you might need to get someone to help you if it feel like there is something in the way, you will get a click and then should feel better with straightening it. still take anti inflammatories for a few days. if this fixes it then to avoid it happening again, you need to strengthen your quads.
