Could you give a little more information about the mechanism of injury? I'm trying to picture what happened and am not quite clear. You kicked with the right, then landed on the extended (straight) left leg, then it buckled? How did you come off of the left leg as you were kicking with the right? From the sounds of it you landed on the left foot? I'm not sure.

Could be a contusion injury within the joint as a result of landing straight down on the leg...if that is how it happened.

How bad is your pain? That type of injury can cause a fracture of the tibial plateau, meniscal injury, and possible joint capsule injury.

Other issues can be myofascial strain, ligament sprain, and so on. When the knee buckled, which direction did it go in? Is your pain and swelling worsening, staying the same, or improving?
