Unhappy Calf Muscle injury that won't go away.

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hello all.

I do hope somebody can help with this annoying injury.

I an 42 years old and 6 weeks ago whilst playing football an opposition player managed to put his knee right into the thickest/widest part of my right calf muscle. I continued with the game okay. But when I returned home and rested, the leg was very painful to use, sometimes even unable to use.

I put up with it for a week before finally getting my GP to look at it. He said give it a few weeks and return when fit and able. Another week or so past and I returned to my GP as it wasn't get any better.

He prescribed me very good Ibuprofen and told to rest for 2 weeks or so.

I did this and eventually went for a run...everything seemed well. Went for another run and got to a top of a hill and the calf simply seized on me.

That was a week and a half ago!!

The leg is fine to walk on etc, even a light light run, but put some pressure on the area, it doesn't 'arf hurt!
I am frightened to return to football training only to find the muscle goes again.

Somebody has suggested that the muscle has 'knotted' and needs physio to smooth out the muscle fibres. When manipulated you can feel the injured area as a little more solid than the rest of the calf.

The GP did suggest NHS physio but would take months to wait for. I am unemployed right now and can't afford private physio so is there anything I can do, or my wife do help aid the recovery please?

    Thanks in advance!
