PROBLEM WITH DePUY MITEK HEALIX ANCHOR FOLLOWING ROTATOR CUFF SURGERY

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
I had rotator cuff surgery, using the DePUY Mitek HEALIX titanium anchor back in March 2012. I have read various posts regarding clicking or popping noises post surgical. I have severe clicking, grinding and popping from that shoulder and was told that it is from the sutures used with the anchor. My Dr. told me that I will need to have the sutures "clipped off" around 1 year post op. The clicking does not hurt, but it is LOUD and annoying. I have not read anything like this, but for me it makes sense.

Hi there, post surgical crepitus is common in my experience following rotator cuff surgery. The suture knots sit proud of the cuff, the bursa has been removed so they have to tendency to rub against a pretty rough acromion which would have been shaved back during the acromioplasty part of the rotator cuff repair procedure.

They often can be felt just under the surface with arm rotation.

The clicking is usually non painful and annoying as you say but should with time, scar tissue formation adjacent to the fixation, partial or full bursal regeneration and contact wear and tear on the suture material sitting proud settle down.

The clicking can sometimes get worse as your range of motion increases but again in my experience settle right down once proper functional rotator cuff and scapula muscle activation and control are achieved.

All in all 12 months+ potential timeframe.

    Good Luck!

    All the best.

    Luke
