Hi all
I had a comminuted femur fracture, and subsequently had a CRIF surgery on 22nd Feb 2013.
Now it's nearing 5 months, the bone is healing ok.
But I guess my gluteus medius has become weak and I am showing all signs of the T gait.
My questions are :
1> Is it normal to develop this after a boken femur?
2> How long does it take to get rid of this ? I am doing the usual clamp shell, and sideways leg raises, lying down and standing.
3> Strangely, my groin hurts more than the hips if I want to walk straight. Is it usual?
4> My bone hasn't healed fully. Can that be a cause for this gait?
Unfortunately my OS doesn't have much time for all this. And my PT is not educated enough to answer all the questions.
This limping is a little annoying, but i must say I am progressing through it. 1 month back I couldn't even raise my legs sideways, now I can do 20-30 times at a stretch with some pain near the end.

Core exercises use core muscles(this muscles mantain the stability and balance) . The functional movements use this core muscles,. I searched an article for you to read more about. The Best Core Exercises and Core Workouts
Because you are training only a group of muscle with the exercises you are doing, and the break you had after your fracture, not using many other movements and muscles, in order to protect the site of fracture.
The pain in the groin and medial, can be caused by that fracture,by weak lateral hip rotators, but there are many other areas and sources which can referr pain into the groin . How is the pain now? Getting better or worse and what it aggravates and what eases the pain?
First of all , maybe your physiotherapist already checked if you have any leg length discrepancy, and your posture. Then, not using this muscles, because you were injured and you were protecting the site of injury, that aswell can cause pain.
I just gave you some clues, but of course your orthopedic and physiotherapist, which can see you live and examine you, they can tell you more then me.
