knee locked straight due to fractured femur and fracture to patela

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
6 weeks ago i was in a dirtbike accident and fractured my left femur and patela and also my right tib and fib. I have only just got the OK to walk with a frame and start physio so i seen physio immediately, i have been shown all the stretching and strengthening exercises for my legs and knee as it is locked straight but my actual question is would i be able to use the DR HO muscle pain relief machine on my thigh and knee as the muscles there are very tense and tight which i making bending my knee even harder and more painful, i have been massaging the area by hand but just thought that this might help even more or would it do more damage..
    cheers

Re: knee locked straight due to fractured femur and fracture to patela

Its just another method for pain relieve, looks high tech but not necessarily better than just simple Hot Pack and massage. I would not suggest my patients to buy it unless they are so affected by pain that they lose all interest in everything.

This is a stage that you just have to suck it up :P. It will get better once you can bend your knee more.

There's won't be any need to get the pain relief machine. Just perform the exercises as suggested by the physio and you will be go to go in 2-3 months.

Re: knee locked straight due to fractured femur and fracture to patela

Hello, Firstly let me know the following details. 1.The site of fracture and its type. 2. Was the fracture managed surgically or conservatively ? 3.The period of immobilization. From your query I understand that your knee joint was not mobilized but shown some some exercises only instead of being treated.

i don't think you need to use the machine, let your pain go away naturally and you are going to recover soon enough

Manual manipulation of the stiff knee by an expert physiotherapist is the best form of treatment.

Only if there is stiffness within the knee joint thats causing limited movement.

Care to give us an update?

In he original query nothing has been mentioned regarding the site and type of fracture of the femur and patella and whether it was managed conservatively or surgically. The cause of knee locked straight is not due to he fracture as stated but it is due to post immobilization stiffness. After a detailed clinical examination and evaluation it possible to manipulate the knee joint manually.
