Question slow progress after brostrum surgery physical therapy

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
I am 2 1/2 months post of after brostrum surgery, no grafts from elsewhere were needed. Also they did something to repair peroneal tendon cover because it was sublexing after this same injury, which I also had a jones fracture that was booted for a while before brostrum.

I have been in my shoe with a brace for a month and in physical therapy for a 1 1/2 months.

Every week it seems previous weeks exercises get easier and another is added. Each new activity lets me know I'm using a new body part with the initial pains and it takes a couple days to get used to. I am not taking over the counter meds because I want to know whats going on in my body.

I am up to 1 1/2 hours of walking each day with proper form, and I get a general ache all over to let me know I am pushing it.

I am starting to wonder if I am progressing too slow if I am ever to return to my previous life with all the running and jumping, etc., activities not done in pt yet.

I am getting way better on the balance exercises but not near my left side which is not dominant. Foot feels stable, just like I need to keep practicing those drills longer.

My range of motion front to back feels ok when walking, but I can tell I lack allot when standing against wall and doing left knee to it and stretching out my injured side. I get tugs on the repair area and feel like I'm hitting a wall.

My most major concern is lack of range of motion in my toes in general when manipulating. When I do steps for example and come down I feel like they are resisting. And surprisingly to me the general aches I am complaining about now are the general area of the midfoot toward the toes. Like at the end of the walk, or when getting fatigued on step exercises. It effects my form.

I still get little pinches/aches/pains from the surgical area and impact of injury/roll where the jones fracture was, but nothing like before surgery, and nothing that seems to effect my full weight bearing on each step thus far in pt.

I had the same surgery and have rehabbed others with it and you will do fine. You have to give it some time. Your doctor will give you the green light I returned to competitive volleyball and it was my confidence level that I had to work on and believing I did not have to wear a brace. This did take 2-3 months to get through once I started playing. Voice your concerns to your therapist.
Your therapist should be operating under a specific guide for this procedure. Ask to look at it. I have written protocols for practices including this one. They are guides with criteria for advancement based on healing times, etc. I would place the protocol in the chart incase ended up not working with the patient
