    Permanently tired Calves

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Hi first time poster and I hope I'm posting in the right place.

My calves are always tired and I'm not sure how to solve the problem. I play sport 3 times a week and I've took some time out in the hope they would recover but nothing. I stretch regularly and I've tried circulation exercises but still no joy. I've had this feeling everyday for a while. I play sport and I've no spring in my legs from the word go and it's seriously limiting my performance.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dean

    Re: Permanently tired Calves

Has it always been this way? When did it start? Is there any significant atrophy noticeable? Any pain? Is it the same before, during, and after your sporting event?

Not at all, only really been like this for the last 6/7months with no significant atrophy present and there's no pain at all in my calves. Yes it's the exact same at all stages of the sporting event, they're just exhausted from the word go. Pretty much at all stages of the day they're exhausted.

Would it be worthwhile taking up cycling and trying to build up strength in my calves?

    Many Thanks

    Re: Permanently tired Calves

Maybe the calfs are just generally overused, and unable to totally relax during resting.

Try pressing down hard on the calfs and all the way down to right next to the achilles tendon. If you only feel normal muscle aches, not anything like localised soft tissue mass (or anything that makes you feel it may be serious), I guess you could try massaging deeply. I feel it helps me a lot, concentrate on the lower third either side of the achilles tendon, and upper third of the calf on the medial area where the belly of calf muscle locate. (*Remember to use lotion. You could learn some simple massage technique from youtube)

If that doesn't work, it would probably be wise to let a physio to look at it..... even if it's just to make sure there isnt anything require proper treatment.

I think you should go back to your GP, there's no reason why you should be developing this weakness in a specific part of your body for no apparent reason if you are fit and healthy (and active).
    Further investigations.
