Hi, I've been suffering with shin splints for nearly a year now, I have had xrays to confirm no fracture. The pain is worse in a section of muscle that runs along along the shin bone about half way between my knee and ankle, but I also have a lot of pain to touch the muscle just under the knee and all along that muscle down to my ankle.

It has not got better with rest over the months so recently ive been trying to perform my own deep tissue massages to the whole of this muscle by using massage oil and applying medium pressure all the way down from where I get pain below the knee right down to the ankle, focusing more on the tender spots and really trying to get in to the muscle and open it up, the pain from which is high but I'm hoping thats a good thing? Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong? How often can I perform these massages? Or anything else I can be doing?

I miss running so much and would love to see an end to this issue! Thanks in advance.
