    Brief Medical History Overview

    SPrained Ankle---Ligament Damage

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi

I was playing football about 25 days ago when i fell over and got a bad pain in my ankle, when i woke up the next day my ankle was swollen. i ignored this and played football on it( reflecting this wernt such a good idea)

I then went to A+E 9 days after when they gave me a cast for 10 days as they were unsure if it was broke as the xray had a vessel on it,

the cast has now been removed, and they have said that i cannot play football until passed fit by a physio

do you know how long this will be? and will my ankle always be weak

    Thanks

My best advice would be to do what you were advised to do and SEE a physio. To give you a true prognosis, your ankle needs to be assessed. A physiotherapist will be able to assess the ligaments of your ankle and tell you what damage has been done, generally how severe it is and what you can expect from the future. If there is no full tear (which is very possible considering you never noticed any swelling until the next morning), there is no reason that you can't get back to full function (with some work on your part). If there is a more severe tear, the rehab process will be longer but again...no way of knowing this unless you have someone actually assess it. Even though you are physically active, an individualized rehab program to address issues with your ankle will make the recovery process go a lot better than just waiting for it to "get better". On top of that, once the ankle is assessed and you are starting to work on rehab, return to sport rarely starts once the ankle is 100%. It usually starts well before that point....a physio can help you determine how to gradually get yourself back out there and can assist you with necessary bracing / taping that may also make the transition easier.
    Good Luck!

Good reflection, but don't worry with a little care and some physio work you should be looking to try to get assessed at 110% of where you think you were before before playing another match,
I then went to A+E 9 days after when they gave me a cast for 10 days as they were unsure if it was broke as the xray had a vessel on it,
    What vessel?

Indeed, there are many research studies that have shown that athletes may benefit from sports specific assessments to examine match preparedness, it may be beneficial to get up to full strength or you HIGHLY increase the risk of re-injury
do you know how long this will be? and will my ankle always be weak
Unless there is underlying significant trauma it shouldn't be more than a few weeks
    Thanks
    As above, regards
