6mths post acl recon and meniscus repair
Hi,
I've had my acl recon and meniscus repair about 6mths ago, but i'm still feeling pain after jogging for just 15 min. The pain is bearable (pain is pretty much a part of life already XP), but there'll usually be swelling for the next 2-3 days.
-- is this kind of pain normal? or just strain?
-- should i stop running entirely? or continue running once the swelling subsides?
my physio is not very open with me with regards to the condition of my knee. He kept evading my questions about the instability of my knee so im seeking some advice over here.
Now, my therapist said my hip muscles are weak after first saying my quads and hamstrings are weak. So I've been pumping quite a fair bit of iron cause the inactivity is slowly making me depressed. Is it advisable to pump so much iron? My therapist did not say anything or advise me with regards to the pumping of so much weights, so I'm actually not sure if I'm doing the right thing. Also, the amount of muscles that i've build is getting rather unsightly for a lady.
-- can i stop the muscle building entirely (for the strong muscles) and start on endurance training to loose some muscle mass? will this compromise the stability of my knee significantly if i loose abit of the muscles?
generally my knee feels stable, but it feels wobbly after running for 15 min. I went to a GP who did the checks and said that my joint is loose, but i suppose the tightness of my reconstructed acl is within the functional range since i can jog even though it's for just a while only.
thing is, my therapist told me to do the weights to weaken my muscles, then asked me to do a knee bend on a one leg stance, which I couldn't do at all. My injured knee has a tendency to bend inwards instead of outwards and it wobbles terribly everytime. However, i realized that i could manage a few knee bends if i did not do the weights before the bending (still... I can only manage less than 10 times). I also have problem balancing on the balancing board.
-- can anyone please tell me wats wrong with my knee in this case of imbalance?
plus, i am pretty much able to flex my knee fully already. but when i do full squats, the knee starts to hurt.
-- which part of my knee is causing all these problems? is my meniscus the problem?
