    Brief Medical History Overview

    Recurring Pain in Upper Calves

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hi Everyone,

For about the past year, every couple months both of my calves would become tight and ache for a few days at a time. I never thought much about it at first, but then started to wonder why it would keep happening.

Then Saturday morning I woke up to the most horrible pain in my upper, inner right calf. It never went away, Sunday night a nurse said I should go to the ER. Well, they checked for a clot, and didnt find one thankfully. Doctor said it could be anything. It is extremely tender to touch, hurts more when Im stepping downwards. No swelling, no redness, no fever, no blue/white color.

I've tried increasing my fluids, calcium, and potassium. Took 10 meq of potassium this morning, nothing helps and now my left calf is starting to ache. Taking ibuprofen as well.

I guess Im frustrated because I can't help but wonder why this has been happening more often/worse over time. Did bloodwork..electrolytes were fine, Im young, in good health, good weight. I havent been overly active for a few weeks, so it isnt exercise related. I have even backpacked for days with no muscle cramps!

Just wish I knew what could be making me limp around, thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Recurring Pain in Upper Calves

    Hi
It is probably a biomechanical problem. My advice would be to visit a sports injury specialist near you who will be able to assess your feet, ankles, calves, knees, hips and lower back to see whats happening.

For one reason or another you are probably putting to much stress on the ankles causing the calfs to tighten up and cramp easily through being over worked.
