    physiotherapy assistant

    Hi!
I'm a physiotherapy student from Sweden graduating in January 2012. I have been looking into the possibility of going over abroad next summer 2012 (May-August) to work for 2-3 months as a physiotherapy assistant.
Australia, New Zeeland, South Africa, Europe. Anyhing is of interest. I have just finished my elective clinical placement abroad and found it very rewarding.
    Would this be possible?

    Best Regards
    Josefine

    Re: physiotherapy assistant

I have now found two assistant jobs, one in australia and one in canada. can I apply for them? Is it easy to get a Visa if you have a job in the country?

    thanks!

Yes surely. Once you have a job in a country, with the reference of the employer you can easily get a visa for that country. Whereas getting a visa becomes difficult if you do not have a job in hand. Both Australia and Canada are great places. But then you have to decide on the basis of opportunities, salary and the standard of living. One of my friend is in Canada and he said that the salary in Canada is not great. If you work in clinical setting you are starting at $10 only. So it would be better if you are getting something in the hospital set-up. I don't have any idea about PTA's in Australia. I think you should do some search on net, and gather more information. The site Physical Therapy Colleges » Search 95+ Colleges for Physical Therapy might also help you. Making a move to a different country is altogether a very difficult decision. So Good Luck, and do post your experience over here.

    dear Josefine,

The place to go to is WCPT.org | you will find the websites of all the international PT organisations.
Going on to those, you will most probably find most of your questions answered. If not, you can write to them and ask.
The WCPT is our organisation and it is there to help.

    kind regards and good luck.
I would say that as far as PT levels Canada and Australia are equals... it is the climate that is totally different. Coming from Sweden you will proabably feel very much at home in Canada, but if you love the heat... then Australia is your better bet.

    good luck with your endevours.
