Hello, I am a JV Pitcher at a D3 college. About a week ago there was pain in my hand/finger and I simply thought I had bruised it. Yesterday while pitching, something started causing me so much pain I could no longer hold on to my fastball. It became difficult to hold on to a bat as well. The pain is in my right hand middle finger, the joint that connects the finger to the hand, and it is more so between the middle and ring finger of my hand.
I can move the finger completely, though there is stiffness and pain as I put my hand into a fist or attempt to grip things. If I leave my hand completely still and use my other hand to move the finger, there is no pain. The athletic trainers office was closed after practice on friday and I can't see them until monday. Any ideas what this issue may be? I am taking NSAID's this weekend to reduce pain, though there is NO visual swelling. There does not appear to be anything wrong with the finger when you look at it.
Please help me, as I have 2 games wednesday and thursday and would really hope to start pitching/throwing ASAP.
