Can knee trauma cause calf problems?

I am a 45 year old male. I fell over 4 months ago landing on my knee. A deep cut on the top edge of the patella is still prominent. Mobilising the patella laterally and medially causes knocking which was not there before the fall. There is also no knocking in the left leg. On weight bearing there is also a knock or click as the knee is unlocked and moved into flexion. I find full flexion uncomfortable and it feels like there is jelly under the skin when palpating the patella. I have tried over the last 3 months to start running again. The medial belly of the calf near the attachment site is sore to palpate. Stretching produces no problems. BUT every time I have tried going for a run, no matter how slow, I get to about a mile and the calf pulls, feeling like someone is constantly flicking the inside top edge of my calf. Could the knee be causing the calf problems?when I go out for a run after rehab the calf feels fine, but thenas soon as I build up to a 1mile run, it goes again. Many thanks for looking. I would be interested in your thoughts.
    Regards
    Mike

    Taping
Yes injury to knee may cause latent triggers in your calf to resurface.have you tried patellar taping and then mfr to muscles around knee.
