    LCL sprain

    Hi

    I sprained my LCL (or that's what the doc said anyway) 2days ago and am currently on crutches and not supposed to weight bare for another 4days. I am supposed to be competing in a major trampolining competition in 3weeks time and so am wondering how long the rehab time usually is? The doctor says the ligament is in tact and stable and I have been referred for physio

    Also now i have taken the bandages off my leg has been very cold - my foot is painful because its so cold. I have been moving my toes and ankle, and gently moving my knee but i cannot get my leg warm and its very uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do, is there something wrong?

    have you got any significant swelling or bruising, either when you did the injury or in the days after it? unfortunately in my opinion i think you'd be pushing it a bit to try and do something like high level trampolining in 3 weeks due to the nature of the sport, you'd be rushed.

    Thank you for the reply!

    I only started to feel the pain in my foot 2days after i had the initial injury and it is still quite discolored compared to the other foot and is a little swollen although has gone down a bit.
    I had a hospital appointment today and saw a physio who said i should now start weight baring and then once walking comfortably and it feels stronger to try trampolining again. I was quite surprised and not entirely sure when i will no when it is strong enough to go back to sport?
    With my foot the feeling was that it was swollen etc due to lack of movement as i had not been weight baring and therefore over the next few days should improve

    ohh your foot, usually LCL is used for a collateral ligament in your knee.... i thought you meant that. I'd highly recommend starting to walk on it properly without any limping from today, weight bearing from early on with ankle ligament injuries are always much more effective. Id recommend you keep icing it in 10-12min intervals if it is swollen, and do gentle exercises to make sure you have your full range of movement. Id recommend too that you do work on your balance before you get back to trampolining as you are going to be predisposed to doing it again if it is not rehabilitated properly. Did you physio give you any exercises to complete?
    walking properly may be a bit uncomfortable at first but try and persevere, you won't do it any damage (if it is a lateral ligament sprain in the ankle). Peroneal muscle strengthening is essential too for future injury prevention strengthening, id be happy to give you more advice if you are not going to see another physio.

    You where correct in that it is the knee LCL that is the primary injury. However secondary too it I have been having pain in my foot as well, however like i said it is thought this may just be because i have had to rest due to the knee injury. I have begun trying to walk about as much as i can without crutches but it feels a little odd.

    I have some basic exercises for the knee such as bending and straightening...
