    Sprained Ankle

Hi, I sprained my ankle playing football on bonfire night 2006, so 6 months ago. The injury occured after i recieved a kick under my right ankle which sort of jarred my ankle.

After leaving for 2-3 months hoping that giving my ankle time to heel word work fine. I went to see a physio who treat my ankle and after seeing him 4 times in 2 weeks the pain had gone but from then and til now i feel i am still walking and running on the outside of my right foot, hence i havent played football since.

Is this just entirely mental or is there a technical explanation to it (my doctor said it could be something to do with the ligaments joioning too fast whilst I was walking funny).

Are there also any exercises I could do to speed up the process?

    Someone please help me.

    Thanks

    Exclamation Re: Sprained Ankle

    Hi Bingley,

Just want to ask whether you have had ankle sprains before. Is there a feeling of giving way, or you feel wobbly or unsteady when you walk?Because an untreated ankle sprain may lead to chronic ankle instability, a condition which is marked by persistent discomfort and a “giving way” of the ankle. You may also
    develop weakness in the leg.

    Let us know....

    Re: Sprained Ankle

    Charlize,

No this is my first ankle sprain. When i walk i dont feal unsteady i just feel that i am constantly walking on the side of my foot, and cant seem to correct it and when i force myself to walk normally i get a sharp pain in my heel. My ankle and heel also seem to hurt for the next few days after i have been exersizing.

    Re: Sprained Ankle

    Taping
This is going to sound pretty straight forward but: It sounds like their is still something "wrong" with your ankle. It sounds like you walk on the outside of your foot because of the pain through your heel.

If there is still pain when you are using it "normally" it would be fairly safe to assume (without assessing you) that your ankle has not healed completely, or alternately - that due to the layoff from normal exercise/sport that other structures in your foot have become stiff.

There is a structure called the plantar fascia that sounds as it has become irritated - i would suggest seeing your physio so they can assess and treat this problem properly.

    Cheers
