Partial Tear of Distal Bicep Tendon - Surgery or No Surgery

I am a very active athlete. I have partially torn my distal bicep tendon. I had an Wikipedia reference-linkMRI and consultation from my Orthopedic Surgeon. He explained to me that there were 2 schools of thought as to how to treat this injury. One is surgery and the other is rest and to limit the use of the arm. He made the case to go the less intrusive route and I agreed to give it some time to heal without surgery. Has anyone out there had any experience with this type of injury and subsequent treatment?

    Taping
I have only ever come across a full rupture of the distal biceps tendon. He had surgery and then was in a brace that started in elbow flexion and then gradually gained extension. Once out of the brace we did extension mobilisations and then gradually strengthening.
