Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
    Hello,
I am emmigrating to Australia this year 2010! We have our skilled visas already and I am registered in NZ that I will be using to get reg via mutual agreement.
I am looking for advice as how to look for jobs, wheres best to work.....public or private hospital etc etc???

I currently work in a private hospital, in out-patients, qualified for 6 years now. Love orthopaedics and have a special interest in knees!!! I also work in rugby league pitch-side....so would like to cont this.

Any advice or any physios working in sydney currently would be very appreciated.

I cant wait for my new life and job in aus
    Kylie

    Hi Ksmithy

I don't currently work in Oz but I used to live in Sydney. Great choice of place to go to! Anyway physios working there will have more up-to-date info on jobs.

Because some of our graduates take off and go straight there I have some knowledge of what it seems to be like currently. There seem to be heaps of jobs going. And with your level of expertise you should be much in demand. So I suggest you choose the area that you want to work in and go for jobs in that area.

It sounds like you could get a private practice job with a strong link with orthopedic surgeons.

Private hospitals offering elective surgery - this has been a real growth area and could be a good choice.

With the public hospitals you would want to go for a specific outpatient MSK job - don't go for a rotational job - you sound like you have made up your mind with the area you want to develop in so go for that. If you particularly want to work in the public hospital system sometimes it can be a bit of a closed door for the big metropolitan hospitals. We have found our graduates can easily get jobs in the smaller hospitals in the suburbs or periphery of the city - eg central coast hospitals. Sydney has a good train system so if the hospital is close to a train station the way to go is to live in the inner city and commute to the outskirts - as you are going against the traffic the ride is pleasant and relaxing.

In addition to Physiobob's jobs on this site have you looked at SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site this site gets lots of physio jobs. There are a number recruitment agencies who would look after you. However I should warn you that their main interest is the employer and I have found that some of them aren't too good at knowing what the job really involves, or what the employer is really like.

Picking up a locum job might be a good start as you can then checkout the scene once you get there.

Joining the APA is a very good idea and they also have jobs and locum lists. They can also help with indemnity insurance which you must have for registration.

All the best with your adventure!
