The first thing you should do is to start having your credentials recognized. Visit the alliance's website to find out the requirements needed. The process takes between 16 to 22 weeks. Once the Alliance decides that you do not need to take additional courses, then you can register to sit for the PCE written exam. After you pass, you can try and find a job while reviewing for the practical exam. After you've passed that, then you can fully register with the College of Physiotherapists in BC and be able to independently practice.

    That's it in a nutshell I guess =)

    Good Luck!

Re: Where to begin? applying for work in Canada

Hello everybody. U must first be credentialed by the Alliance. You will find details here: www.alliancept.org.If your training is found to be surfficiently equivalent to Canadian trained physio u would be adviced by the Alliance to sit for PCE theory.U may start seeking or secure job at this stage.BC would also allow u to practice b4 sitting for the next available PCE under the supervision of a licenced physio.
If your training is found not be equivalent to canadian trained, the Alliance might develop a make up for u.All could take a minimum of 3-6months.Generally speaking credentialing + make up courses could span thru a year.
    Just my shot.yelufem.

Re: Where to begin? applying for work in Canada

PhysioNeel, thanks for your kind words. The moment the Alliance certified your training to be substantially equivalent to Canadian trained physio,U shall be communicated to the effect by the Alliance. The alliance would then advise u to register for the next available PCE theory which u must pay for to be consider ready for it.At this stage most employer would be ready to hire u in BC knowing you are eligible to take PCE exam the moment u arrive canada. They would be willing to give emploment letter and other documents which u would tender at the embassy towards obtaining your work visa.
You may start to practise under supervision in BC before taking your exams.
    Hope this helps.yelufem

Re: Where to begin? applying for work in Canada

Yelufem, many thanks for your guidance, so when i get certified, it sounds straight forward, they tell me about the PCE theory, and jobs will become available for me, how about immigration? what part of the process is that? should i apply for immigration at the same time? and how about the college of physiotherapists in canada? when do i register with them?
    much appreciated

Re: Where to begin? applying for work in Canada

Yes. The moment you paid for the PCE and an employer willing to hire u,part of the process is registration with college of physio of BC.You will be required to pay reg fee, not too expensive. U will then be issued interim registration pending your writing the next available PCE.
Immigration comes in the moment your employer forwarded the employment letter and LMO to u.At this time you do many of the process simultaneously with the assistance of your employer. With the letter and LMO,the coast is clear to file for your work visa in your country canadian embassy.Processing may take minimum of 3mths.yelufem.
