Sorry, I should add - I'm in Vancouver.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help out with finding a work shadowing placement in advance of starting my physio course. Ideally, I'd like to do even just a half day or one day in a hospital or similar, shadowing a physio. I'm also interested in ongoing volunteering. Thanks.

HI bluetabu,
are you about to begin a course? Where at? What was your first degree?
How are those Canucks eh?
Vancouver missin' it

I have a conditional offer of a place on a Masters course in the UK and will most likely accept that. They want me to do a day's work shadowing which is why I need to find somewhere to do that.
But it's obviously more expensive to train there than here and I am worried about doing the training in the UK and then having to get the qualification accepted in BC if I come back to work some time. So I have been thinking about the UBC Masters as another option, although I missed this year's application deadline as I need to bump up my average by a couple of percent through some extra courses which I've been taking over the last year.
By the way, if you or anyone else has any info on UBC and how hard it is to get in, that would be much appreciated.
As for the Canucks - not so good just now
Hello again, I am in the UK which Uni do you plan on going to?
I know of a few individuals who have already gone back to canada with Uk degrees and have had no problems with credentials. I intend to do the same next year or so.
UBC is very difficult to get into for several reasons, most importantly being the cut off for GPA (which does not consider difficulty of previous degree), the low number of intake for the entire West coast of canada, and the overall competitiveness in Canadian Schools.
Unfortunately many students who apply at UBC physio also apply for Med school, and often use Physio as a back up option, bumping more sincere candidates hopes for the available interview spaces.
If you need help about the process just post any q's here.
Regards
It's at Queen Margarets in Edinburgh. UBC does seem hard to get into. My degree is in Biology and I'm just short of the GPA just now so have been taking more courses at UBC while working. There seem to be far too few places in canada considering the demand for physios here.
You will love the city of Edinburgh for sure, it is one of the nicest in the UK.
Just to confirm here now: The equivalent programme in the UK that will transfer to Canada from what I understand is the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) program, which requires students to attain over 1000 hours of clinical work
I do not know how the program is structured in Edinburgh, but I do know that Glasgow was one of the first Universities to offer MSc of Physio in the UK over 12 years ago, and has subsequently been adopted across the world, England, and Can, with the exception of US (with its DPT), as the primary course for qualifying.
