Hello

I wonder if anybody could help me?

I'm just beginning to research the registration process for entry to practise in New Zealand.

I've just downloaded the competency document with the ten competencies.

I have three questions

1) If you have passed a uk degree with the same learning objectives can you provide that as evidence.


2) Do they want signed witness statements to prove that you have reached the learning objectives

3) Does anybody know the right direction to point me in for help with the whole process.


If anybody has been through this process i'd really really appreciate your feedback

Hi,

I have been through a few steps of this process (registration with NZ physio board). their website is very accurate and have all the info you need for this. In terms of those ten areas of competencies, you need to provide three documents: qualification transcript, course curriculum and your personal portfolio (your application wont be accepted without all three of them). You mentioned that you have studied in UK, keep in mind that NZ physio board only recognizes courses which were completed after 4 years of study. the main focus is on your portfolio, there are no set rules (as far as i know) around who would get it and who wont. it is completely discretional. In some cases the board may arrange for a written or practical exam for you as well (held in one of the physio schools in NZ).

Hi Armani,
I am physiotherapist from India. I am also planning to apply for the registration with NZ Physiotherapist Board. I am stuck up with the writing of competencies as I am not getting how to go about it.

As for competency 1: they have asked to analyse normal and abnormal patterns of human development.......... should I be writing it as an answer or provide evidence that it is part of the syllabus that I have studied? If as part of my Syllabus how do I mention it, in my portfolio or just highlight it in my syllabus.

Competency 7: is about Physiotherapy services in NZ. How do I write this as I have no experience of working in NZ?

Competency 3:Identify and develop physiotherapy management plan, and evaluate the plan... should I be writing specifically for each condition or in general?

Does all the Competencies need to be counter signed by anyone?

I went through the process a few years ago now (2002) I think at the time I didn't need to address all the competencies being UK trained I am not sure if this has changed. I had to prove skills in the areas of management so I provided details of any management related modules at Uni with copies of any assignments and a copy of the Uni transcript. I also wrote a written statement about things I had done whilst working in this area, projects such as running a junior support group, supervising students, chairing meetings etc. I then asked specific people who I had worked with to provide me with references acknowledging these skills. I also had to provide details about research competency so I sent a copy of my uni ethics and research proposal and details of the relevant module at uni. I then provided a written statement with details about audits I had helped to undertake whilst working and again got a reference from the person I had worked with on this. In the end I had lots of references, each with a different bias to help cover the competencies.
Alot of the info I provided was written statements of things I had undertaken which I then linked to the competencies, I also provided certificates from any relevant courses. There is a lot of paperwork but I tried to stick to addressing the competencies as they were described. I hope this is of some help.

Dear Stim,

Don't worry if you have completed a three year degree programme in UK - NZ do NOT actually decline your application if you haven't completed 4 year training programme.

I went through NZ rego in 2003 and it was relatively easy. No examination involved. Just had to be very thorough in providing substantiated claims in responding to all the competency requirements. I got my reference providers (previous supervisors) to address some of the competencies in their reference letters as proof of me having completed them.
