Hi all, YES it is very frustrating that the NZ board have just revised the competencies. i hope that you all have managed to get you reg in ontime....
unfortunately i have just missed the deadline as my application was returned to me and i now have to apply under the new competencies.

If anyone can give some help or advice with the new competencies it would be much appreciated

Regarding our evidence, when we get letters from our peers & seniors, can they send it printed in plain papers or is it better that they show a letterhead of any hospital that they are working.....i mean printed on a letterhead of some organisation...or no ? coz not everyone will be working always.....

Here is the clause for all Indian PTs applyn for the registration ...if you have started the registration process and you are not aware that we all need to show compulsorily that we have also done a formal course from Australia/NZ/canada/uk after our bachelors or masters from india...here is the link to that...all our indian frenz do read this......

I think it is unlikely you would get a 6 month placement in Australia or NZ for a number of reasons:

• One of the educational institutions here would have to supervise your placement on behalf of your training institution.
• With such a shortage of placements for our own educational institutions, no educational body would want to tie up a placement for 6 months to a foreign student
• The placement would also have to be approved by the appropriate board for the state in Australia or for the country in NZ. My guess is that when evaluating the standard of education of your institution there may be problems for you.

In contrast if you wanted to have a short experience such as for 6 weeks this may be more favourably looked upon. However the placement would still have to be approved by the registration board involved in the state/country

If you are coming to this thread looking for advice on how to get registration for New Zealand, i just wanted to post a quick word of warning. Since I started giving advice I have been to New Zealand, spent almost two years there and have now come back to the UK. The job situation has changed A LOT during this period. Don't get me wrong, it is a great place and I loved my time there but by the end of it it was a bit of a struggle to make ends meet. If you have done your research you will know about the whole change in the ACC situation, patient numbers in the private sector have fallen through the floor and for the majority of physios being paid per patient this has been very difficult. My main point is that there may be jobs there but the patient numbers may not support the type of lifestyle that you might be expecting (especially if you up sticks and move to the other side of the world), so be very careful.

Hi,

Just a quick message to say I absolutely agree with Spud!!! The job situation here is awful, I am still living in New Zealand at present but my fiancee and I have now made the decision to leave after about 18 months I am currently managing to scrape together about 25-30 hours per week and this includes admin and paperwork which accounts for about 5-8 hours per week!!!
If anyone is coming to NZ to work primarily as a physio I would certainly reconsider - Australia may be a better option as i hera the job market there is much better.

Quick question can you dry needle patients in NZ without an official acupuncture qualification (just dry needling qualification). I'm thinking about doing an acupuncture course and not sure which one to do.
