Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

    Hi everyone,
I was advised by the FCCPT to take online courses from St. Augustine to make up credit deficiencies in professional practice courses. Has anyone else taken courses from them, how were they and was the process simple? Thank you

Re: Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

    Hi,

I actually haven't take any courses with St Augustine but am looking to as well. I was just wondering though about how useful the plan is? In my report from the FCCPT they say I lack the following clinical areas:
    1. Delegation
    2. Emergency Procedures
    3. Metabolic Disorders Exam and Evaluation

Where you lacking similar? What did they suggest? I really don't want to give this 'not for profit' organisation more money if I can avoid it.

Also in the Examination and Evaluation Content Area Summary part of the report I have a few things absent. Did they mention any of this in the PLAN?

Re: Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

    Hi Shelley03,

The University of St. Augustine does offer courses that would help fill in the gaps for missing areas that the FCCPT reported to you. I'm very positive they offer courses that cover " delegation and metabolic disorders". I am unsure if they offer a specific course covering emergency procedures, it may be covered in one of their courses. Here is a good link for more information Non-Degree Seeking Students | University of St. Augustine, when you are on this page click on Non-Degree FAQs. A word document will open up in a new window outlining the courses we can take, and answers to some other questions.

I was not lacking in any of the areas where they assign a specific credit value. I think in the Examination and Evaluation Content Area 2 areas were unchecked, however when I did the PLAN they didnt mention these specifically. I asked about why they didn't mention taking courses to fill these checks and they said not to worry. They say I am not missing any specific area of knowledge, I just do not meet the 90 credit requirements for my Professional Credits (Physical Therapy Education). I am currently taking many of their courses to meet the requirements.

Basically the PLAN provides you with a few things
    1. Provides you with an adviser via e-mail that will answer your questions. They also make you send them a list with how you will meet the requirements, so they try to ensure you are completing what you are missing.
    2. Identifies areas you are missing/weak in and a few schools (3) where you can take courses that meet your requirements. I guess if you are web savvy enough you can find these yourself really. St. Augustine was one of the schools they mentioned in the list.

    Hi everyone,
I recently applied to St.Augustine to complete internship hours. I was just wondering if anyone else had to do the same. Please let me know. I am in need of advise!

Re: Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

    Hi GPhysio,

Thank you for all the information. I did end up getting the PLAN just to be sure but as it turned out they only told me what I had already found out on my own.

I am currently doing the metabolic disorders course and the screening delegation and consultation course. Have you done either of these? I am not sure exactly what they expect in terms of the course work and the tutor is less than helpful but yet I have to get at least 75% on each assignment. I am not sure how hard their marking is. Any information you could provide would be really helpful.

    Thank you!!!

Re: Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

    Hi GPhysio,

I am in the same boat and need to do
    Chemistry
    Bio Science
    Delegation, consultation, screening
    Emergency Procedure
    Pharmacology
    Metabolic Disorder

I had done this in Uni but the Syllabus was not detailed enough. Can you please advise me how long can each of these course take from St Augustine?

    Thanks
    Robin

Re: Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

    Hi Robin,

I completed the Delegation, Consultation and Screening course and the Metabolic disorder course. They are independent directed study (IDS) courses so you can do it in your own time frame to a degree. They say each of these courses is 20 hours of work and has to be completed within 8 weeks. Each course has 4 assignments. For Emergency Procedures the FCCPT told me to do a CPR course for health professionals with the American heart association and it was just aone day thing.

I don't know about the Pharmacology, bioscience or chemistry courses but if they are IDS as well they should be 20 hours within 8 weeks too.

    Hope that helps

Re: Taking courses at University of St. Augustine for professional credits

I have more than 90 professional credits, so that is not a concern, but i guess i may have to retake anatomy and general medicine as the technicality of putting marks in india is different from the US. i have been given grace marks in the two subjects, 2 and 4, though i passed the course with first class.
any idea where these can be taken ? is it possible to do these and general credits simultaneously ?

would appreciate the tiniest bit of help.

What help do you need? The pt interview should be written in essay format. Ask questions like how the pt decided to become pt? Where did she/ he complete studies? What is her specialization? What kind of advice, suggestions does she give to clients? Are there any legal issues? Lastly what message would you like to give to new pts, etc. you can think of many other questions too.. Besides in assignments there are basic questions give.
there is nothing right or wrong... Just find a therapist to interview. I recorded my interview so that I can listen to it later.
    hope this helps!
    good luck

Go through the PRI in Philippines...quicker, cheaper and easier no doubt...PLAN service gave me that option. Nailed it.
