Physio in Amsterdam

welcome, in the land where we all speak english but do expect you to learn the lingo if you want to treat patients.
As Orff mentioned, in Holland Pilates instructors are hardly ever physio´s. It a gym thing. It is becoming fashionable to do an instructor course though.

Have you done any kind of preparation at all? I hope so... if not....

We do appreciate the quality of the Australian Physio Curriculum so that is a definite plus....

I was born in Holland and grew up in Australia and believe me, the countries are VERY DIFFERENT.....

Yes, I have found it rather difficult, I had a positive response from an Expat Medical Centre to work with them, and there are a number of locums advertised but I am still waiting for my BIG Registration to come through. It has been 2 months now but they said it can take 4-6 months to be processed....

And yes, I have found out that Pilates is not taught by Physios... I have some part time work in a Pilates studio for now while I wait for the physio rego to come through.

Orf, where do you plan to work in Australia? We have a national body called the APA (Australian Physiotherapy Association) but you will have to register in the state you live/work in. There is not one national registration, just state levels. I think this is in the process of being changed though. I am from Victoria. I am interested also to work in the Netherlands.I 'm from Greece and i have the greek physiotherapy registration.I tryed to find help from eures advisors but there are many things to learn more.Is the same system like England?In the countries of UK you have to pay up to 500 euros for the registration.Please help me to find the way!

well you can check the classified section of the official newspaper in that place so that you can look for a job in your current place.

Hi! Maybe this is a silly question because the title of this thread is Physio in Amsterdam.. but I've noticed a few of you are from Australia and wanting to move/work in Amsterdam. And another user wanting to move to Australia from the Netherlands... do you think this is just a coincidence or is there bigger correlation between the two countries and physio in general? Is it because of similar cultures? Similar philosophies towards physiotherapy? Or pure coincidence?

Just a thought!

I can speculate that...

The Dutch have always been a outgoing nation... and its a small country with lots of people living in it.... we are looking for space and have immigrated to all kinds of countries in the past.
Just about every Australians wants to go to Europe at some point. And of course, Amsterdam with its tolerant atmosphere has always attracted attention.

Physio education is not exactly the same. The "english" model is quite different to the Dutch....
