    Where would you go?

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
    Hi,

Just opening a discussion as to where everyone would go to practice physiotherapy if they had no ties and were able to up root and go anywhere in the world.

Criteria to take into account - Easiness of getting a job (ie current job situation)
    - Pay
    - Speed of registration at new destination

In the UK i hear New Zeland used to be the place to go for jobs, but now I hear its Canada. Anyone got any insight?

    Re: Where would you go?

As a very general rule physiotherapy/physical therapy in the anglosaxon - linked countries have the highest standards of practice and the most autonomy and are properly funded: NZ, Australia, Canada, US , Ireland and Scotland particularly. But there are lots of countries with interesting physiotherapy profiles - The Netherlands is great, and I love the way the Scandinavian countries do health, including physiotherapy.

Jobs are a big problem in NZ at the moment although things are thawing a little where as Australia is crying out for physios.

Personally I don't think physio is likely to be a big money thing - ever really. And maybe that is actually not such a bad thing. There are much easier professions around for making much better money. And I think a lot of younger physios get disappointed when they realise the relatively limited money making potential.

Currently I am think I would like to work in a country where physio is really needed but isn't very developed. I have never done Voluntary service abroad and I would just love to do this.

    Re: Where would you go?

NZ used to be the place to go. I worked there for 4 years. Their law has changed re subsidy for free physio and people now have to pay a surcharge towards their treatment. The surcharge is nothing compared to the price of private treatments worldwide but even with this NZ citizens are not using private physio practises.
Therefore, jobs in the physio world there have dried up. Hospitals pay is very low also.
    Go elsewhere!!
    Good luck

Question Re: Where would you go?

    Dear,

I want to know is there any restriction recently imposed by USA ,not to give admission or not to allow physio to work there.Or they have stopped entertaing them for assement of credentials and giving certificate for practice.

Have a look through the threads about working in the USA. You can search the tags. I am not in the know about current requirements but I think you will find that Indian degrees are not accepted anymore

    Re: Where would you go?

My partner and I have been considering the US, but the application for a green card seems so complicated...!
Is New Zealand complicated in terms of residency and so on?

Are there still huge demand for PTs in Canada these days? I am in the process of completing the credentialling, but we are hearing conflicting reports about medium to long term prospect for foreign trained PTs. Also the credentialing process appears to have gone painfully slow of late. My application has gone pass 1 year and there is still no word yet from the Alliance. Are things slowing down or what? Thanks for your response.

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
There is still a demand, we recruit Physiotherpists on an on going basis.
    1. The process is slow because the education Institution and the employers take time in sending the verified documents.
    2. There is a huge backlog of applications at Alliance and they have to check each and every applicant's references. Plus they are getting lots of application.
The process is taking time due to the number of applicants it is not slowing down.
