    Working in Ireland

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
    Hello,

I`d like to work in Ireland starting in June 2008. Now I would like to know if I have to register with the ISCP. Can someone provide any interesting links where I can search for a job. Thank you

    Re: Working in Ireland

You'll have to visit The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists for information, but yes you will have to register as a physiotherapist with them first. Also depending on how much experience you have depends on how easily you'll find a job. At the moment there are very few physiotherapy jobs for new graduates.

    Re: Working in Ireland

www.careersinhealth.ie will give you all the jobs in the public sector. Look up the The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists website for other jobs. Otherwise 'google' jobs in Ireland and you'll find another few.

    Good Luck

    Re: Working in Ireland

    Hello everyone

I'm new here and first of all I want to write how happy I am that this kind of forum exists.
I've just graduate my studies in Poland and have got B.Sc. degree in physiotherapy (of course). Now I live in Ireland and I would like to register my qualifications into Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. I dicided to take aptitute test instead of supervised practice and my question is about the practical exam (in aptitude test there will be theoretical test and practical exam). Have anybody had to pass aptitude test recently or in the past and can help me to understand how practical test will look like ? I'm really out of the blue with it. I know that they have to know if I'm able to work safely, but what are periods that I have to excercise before takeing this exam ?

I shall be grateful for any response buddies...

    Jackob

    Re: Working in Ireland

Magdamei - I went through what is ahead of you. I got my registration 3 years ago and also had to do 6weeks in cardio-resp.
It took me 8 months to find a placement!! I have sent applications to every general hospital in Ireland and was checking with each of them (ringing physio managers) every month. And it paid off.
It's very difficult time now as so many irish new grads are out of work and are begging for any type of experience so hospitals prefer to take local people rather then outsiders.
But - you never know. I would keep trying and don't give up!!!! One day you'll get a phonecall with "yes".

    good luck

    Re: Working in Ireland

    hey magdamei,

be sensible about it and grab the tail of those who give you even slightest possibility.
I had my adaptation in Loughlinstown Hospital (st. collumcille's hispital), just outside Dublin, on south (shankil area). After gaining registration I got job in the same hospital - stayed there for a year but my contract has finished so had to go. Then I got a job in Rotunda and in Sports Surgery Clinic, plus was working some evenings in private practise - kept going in 3 jobs for 9 months and finally got a full time job in sports surgery clinic.

you might need to be ready to go further in country as dublin is a popular area.
Which hospitals were so rough with you?

    Don't give up!!
are you planning to stay in ireland longer? what do you do now?

Advertise your physiotherapy job on Physiobob's Job
placements -always a challenge, if coru ASKS for CLINICAL PLACEMENTS, IT IS EASIER TO FIND A CLINIC. Hospital always challenging. Ask please Monroe Medical, they have great results, many candidates obtained successful approval - they have some hospital placements but waiting lists apply and they help with aptitude test preparation.
