Hi,

I am a Dutch physiotherapist and am looking for a job in Ireland, Dublin. Is there anyone who can help me find a job?

Hi Kirsten,

Firstly, to work in the public sector in Ireland, you must have your qualifications recognised by the ISCP.

Qualification Recognition does not mean that you become a member of the ISCP. It simply means that if the ISCP 'Recognises' your qualification, it means they are satisfied that you are at least comparable to an Irish graduate. Thereafter, you are 'eligible' to be a member of the ISCP. You must pay a subscription for this PLUS the application fee.

At present, there are a shortage of jobs, with only approx 20 of last years 145 graduates in full-time permanent employment and a new cohort out soon. Although, if you have experience there may be jobs in more senior roles but this is very limited.

If you wish to work in private practice, you may wish to have your qualifications recognised for the following reasons:
i) you may use the title 'Chartered Physiotherapist' and bear the suffix MISCP.
ii) you will be entitled to an insurance scheme which covers you for E6,500,000 for a premium of E145. You may of course get insurance elsewhere but it will not be cheap.
There are many jobs available in private practice, however, these practices also require that you are ISCP members before you begin work. Simply because they would not be allowed to bear that title unless all their employees were chartered.
