    Re: Sputum Clearance indication/contra-indications

Try looking it up in Hough 2001.

There are a few ways to think about it through deductive reasoning:

    - Think is there any Red Flag, some indicator of medical decline?

    Re: Sputum Clearance indication/contra-indications

Please could you elaborate as to why it would be a contra-indication to patients with regarding pneumonia ( consolidation of sputum in the alveoli system). The reason being , I was under the impression the whole objective was to remove the pooled sputum thorugh sputum removal techniques.

    Many thanks.

    Cheers!

    Re: Sputum Clearance indication/contra-indications

yup i agreem but as i've observed and read, Physiotherapy including Postural drainage, percussion, vibratiuon etc. prolongs the patients recovery time in acute phases of pneumonia. probably in early stages it contributes in spreading of the infection in other parts of the lungs rather then only sputum production.

So i think its best if we contril the acute phase pharmacuetically, and once the pruimary presentations are controlled we can further assist patient in sputum clearence.

Isnt it!! well i've found some body supporting me, please checkout "CPT in Pneumonia" artice by Britton et. al. in British Medical Journal.
