Indications to Sputum Clearence techniques:
Patient with lot of secretions in the upper resp tract
Patient with swollowing difficulty..
COPD Patients.
patients weaned off from ventilator.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Ashtamatic Patients.
Patients with pneummonia.
Patients with acute onset Ch. Bronchitis.
Patients with acute Sortness of Breath.
Patients with neurological diseases with partial respiratory involvement.

Please could you elaborate as to why it would be a contra-indication to patients with regarding pneumonia ( consolidation of sputum in the alveoli system). The reason being , I was under the impression the whole objective was to remove the pooled sputum thorugh sputum removal techniques.

yup i agreem but as i've observed and read, Physiotherapy including Postural drainage, percussion, vibratiuon etc. prolongs the patients recovery time in acute phases of pneumonia. probably in early stages it contributes in spreading of the infection in other parts of the lungs rather then only sputum production.
So i think its best if we contril the acute phase pharmacuetically, and once the pruimary presentations are controlled we can further assist patient in sputum clearence.
