There is an introduction to Cranial Osteopathy on the MSc Osteopathy (pre-registration) programme offered at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO).

    Thank you for your question.

    Re: Retrain as an osteopath

So, what you are suggesting then is that fully credentialled Physiotherapy graduates already participating in a field where the careful sceptical scientific analysis of method and theory of manual therapies holds sway, to adopt , voluntarily, methods, such as CST, that have been sytematically and throughly debunked as sham.
Why would any physio wish to do that?
How many other sham "treatments" does the BOS attempt to promulgate ?
Does the BOS realise that the world of science based manual therapy has, well and truly driven over the nonsense put forward by the method known as CST and squeezed it hoping something valuable might be forthcoming only to have it revealed as the baseless placeboic trivia it is.
Is the BOS, with you as it's agent, so short of willing high school graduates to entertain with this kind of non science, it must now attempt to woo new adepts from within the ranks of real scientists.
Good luck with that , you certainly have pluck.

The MSc Osteopathy (pre-registration) programme offered at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) teaches various osteopathic manual therapy techniques delivered within a critical framework, these frameworks are set to enable students to develop a critical understanding of the osteopathic paradigm of clinical practice, whilst contrasting it to your and that of your colleagues' current philosophy of practice. These frameworks are also set to enable students to critically appraise current and developing models of osteopathic diagnosis and practice with regard to their plausibility and underpinning evidence. Our students develop a robust and critical understanding of current models of pain processing and management, including the biopsychosocial model, and taught how they can be incorporated in their own osteopathic model of clinical practice. Our MSc Osteopathy (pre-registration) students further enhance their skill of diagnostic palpation and understand its critical role in osteopathic evaluation and technique.

Shanaz @ BSO ( mailto:[email protected] ) has reported this post:

This is part of this thread:
    Retrain as an osteopath
    http://www.physiobob.com/forum/gener...osteopath.html

This is the reason that the user gave:
    Dear Administrator,

I would like to report this post as rude, offensive and a deliberate stance to attack the British School of Osteopathy (BSO). The author aims to humiliate the BSO and has an aggressive tone when referring directly to me. I was upset by this post, all I wanted to do was inform physiotherapists that there is an option to train as an osteopath if they wish to do so. This course open to anyone who holds either a physiotherapy/medical/chiropractic degree. It is an opportunity to have a dual practitioner-ship.

I hope you will look into my report.

    Regards,

    Shanaz
    Dear Shanaz

While I can understand you taking some personal offense at Ginger's rather robust manner of his comments, this website is a forum for discussion for physiotherapists, not a place for posting free advertising for courses. I actually think you have really opened yourself for such criticism. Ginger is really simply exercising his right to comment and is providing skeptical criticism about a pseudoscientific practice (Craniosacral therapy) that you have admitted is part of the course you are touting, and for which you have not yet provided any defense.

I would also point out that in advertising your course your opening line is "retraining as an osteopath" and the first and only testimonial you provided is very negative about physiotherapy - the implication being that there is and inadequacy that needs to be corrected by changing professions - this may be your view which you are perfectly entitled to hold but it is hardly a diplomatic move on a physiotherapy discussion site and it therefore surprises me little that you get such reaction. And being a forum the dialogue at time can get rather strong worded

I see no point in taking any action on either side. However for future reference it would be better if you advertised the course in the Physiobob courses section: PhysioBob's Jobs - Physiotherapy Job & Course vacancies, Physio Recruitment & Courses for physiotherapists

    regards

    GCoe

    Re: Retrain as an osteopath

Hi All, thanks for the comments and I welcome input by Osteopaths on this forum. I think however a discussion about the rational behind craniosacral therapy is best kept to an entirely separate post. It would be wrong to describe Osteopathy as quackery. We do know that many techniques demonstrate clinical effectiveness and that many professionals use the same techniques under different guises and based on different rationales. I am a supported of EBP but am also a harsh critic that it is based on pretty poor science and looks at what is the best average thing to do rather than looking at the skills of an individual therapist working with a uniquely individual client.Again this is a totally separate discussion.

I tend to agree that Shanaz has opened it up for discussion but that Ginger has an axe to grind here. Not sure why CST was pulled out as an example here, maybe for the reasons gcoe has pointed out. I think that we should leave this one for now as it is not a discussion about the clinical effectiveness of CST it was a post about adding more education to your physiotherapy degree by learning what osteopathy has to offer. I know many such clinicians and it is a valuable combination.

P.S. gcoe is right in that Physiobob.com is the best place to advertise this course.
