Unhappy Where are all the Indians?

    Taping
Although it is a bit off the general topic I am rather perplexed about some issues with regards interest in continuing education in India post graduation.

I see a lot of courses coming on the PhysioBob's Job site in India which is great. Yet although I am involved in an excellent clinical sports medicine magazine (sportEX medicine) and also have dealings with several excellent other products, including anatomical CDs/DVDs, I have never seen a single subscription sale to the magazine to even one person based in India.

This is amazing considering they are the largest growing group on the website and on the forum and often they seem to be the most wanting to learn and share experiences. I astounding thing to me is that as a very large group they don't seem to want to spend even a small amount a year on a clinical publication that would help them tremendously.

I cannot think that this is a money issue as we have sold many to African countries such as Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia as well as Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. But nothing in India. Perhaps this is a reading in English issue? Perhaps reading journal type publications is not a typical thing done in India. I can say that many of you Indian members download article from this very publication using the Journal Club section. But where are the subscribers?

Any ideas, comments? All thoughts welcomed

Cool Re: Where are all the Indians?

Personally, i like to buy sportEX but i have some reservation in buying through online using credit card because of online fraud.
Many of them like to learn but cost may hold them from buying them.
26 pound = 2400 rupees plus shipping charges and your trying to sell where many those starting salary around this.
1)This magazine is counted as CPD but where is CPD in india. there is no CPD point calculation here then why should we buy.
    2) India may have many therapist but most trying to go out of this field.
    3) only interested guys work as therapist, within that those entering sports field is less.
4)only those who trying to go out of country like to buy these product to earn these points.
5)Those who go for course to upgrade their knowledge practically (not by reading magazine) or to get certificate for there future use.

Many therapist studying masters may argue my words.

P.S how to buy sportEX through cheque or Draft.

    thank you

Re: Where are all the Indians?

Thanks for the reply. Firstly the online shop is via a secure socket layer SSL and so there is no problem with fraud. This would be the same for all countries and yet India is alone in their non-subscription.

It is true that not everyone goes into sports medicine, however as people can see form the articles already posted on this forum the content is actually relevant to anyone who does treat nearly any patient. But you might have a point that this needs to be conveyed more to the users that this magazine is for ALL conveyed and other Allied Health Professionals.

CPD is not mandatory in most countries, yet it is something everyone working in conveyed would do as part of life, not just because we have to. I was subscribing to many PT magazines from 2nd year of undergraduate training.

As for other methods of payment, we will add paypal shortly. People can also send a money order or bank draft in UK pounds. Juts email us via the contact us link on the shop. Overall however I believe most of your comments are the same for African countries and other Asian countries. It doesn't quite account for India in isolation.

    Any other thoughts?

Would there be a place for these publications to be translated into your language? Are there many languages spoken in India that are only understood by there local community, or is there one major language that all would be able to read? I am sure that if there enough interested people, and if they were willing to subscribe to some of the publications, then perhaps we might consider translating a few articles as a test run.

Hmm...nice idea but every physio know and study in english. speaking in english is order of the day so i don't think this will work (my guess). come to India convince students and therapist in colleges and universities will work. once few started buying it will spread like wildfire.

    thank you

Maybe you can suggest a large annual conference we might sponsor with a free copy for every reader?
