    Thumbs up 2 questions...!!

    Must have Kinesiology Taping DVD
    Hallo All,

    would some one please answer the following questions clearly as possible as s/he can:

    1.Where(at which part of the body ),when(at what ages?) and For what cases we can apply a contrast hydrotherapy(Hot packs and Ice packs ) At the same session of physical therapy?! IF yes,for which of them would be priorty to apply first hot or ice pack?!

    2. For what cases & How we can describe for patients from a medical view (healthy )the appropriate Mattress/bed,shoes and pillows?!(note i'm not asking about commertial products.)

    hi Jonior PT:
    for the first question, hydrothertapy doesent mean cold and hot packs ( it means excercises under water), but physiomodalties means cold and hot packs.
    cold and hot packs used for group of age where the patient is mentally oriented ( to help them to determine if the pack is exctreme cold or hot to avoid burn), for the causes, mostly all PT knows that hot used in chronic conditions for excemple in truma or stroke ( to decrese pain, decrase muscle tone, improve circulation to facilitate healing, and to increase scar elasticity).
    but for cold pack it is mostly used in acute stage, like inflamation ( rheumatoid arthrities causes or OA ).
    using hot or cold pack depend on the pt prefere ( if the pt likes hot so use hot other wise use cold), also check pt sensation befoe applying the modality.

    Thanks for ur reply, but i meant at what cases(diseases) not causes ,also i want to know contraindications of being uese hot and ice packs at same time of session of PT,,,

    contrast bath :Therapeutic heat and cold to distal extremity .This produces alternate dilations and contractions of the blood vessels, which aid in the absorption of swelling and thus promote the healing process

    Indication ::
    Ligament Sprain or Joint capsule sprain
    After initial ice only for first 72 hours
    Stasis edema
    Peripheral Vascular Disease
    Improve circulation in contralateral extremity
    Occurs by consensual vasodilatation
    Exercise is more effective in PVD
    Osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid Arthritis
    Improves range of motion
    Adverse Effects

    Vigorous hyperemia
    Discomfort during cold cycle
    Issue of compliance

    Preparation :

    Warm Water Bath: 38-44 C (100-111 F)
    Cold Water Bath: 10-18 C (50-66 F)
    Technique 1: Decrementing Warm Baths (20 minutes)


    Warm water bath for 5 minutes
    Cold water bath for 1 minute
    Warm Water bath for 4 minutes
    Cold water bath for 1 minute
    Warm Water bath for 3 minutes
    Cold water bath for 1 minute
    Warm Water bath for 2 minutes
    Cold water bath for 1 minute
    Warm Water bath for 1 minute

    Technique 2: Fixed Warm Baths (30 minutes)

    Warm water bath for 10 minutes
    Cycle warm and cold baths for 4 repetitions
    Cold water bath for 1 minute
    Warm Water bath for 4 minutes

    contrast bath it could be hydrotherapy!! sorry hessa but it is part of hydrotherapy!
