    Re: seizures or epilepsy

    hi all,

Epilepsy is a temporary physiological dysfunction of the brain caused by a self-limited, abnormal hypersynchronous electrical discharge of cortical neurons.
It is characterized by repeated seizures that continue intermittently throughout life unless successfully treated.
It affects about 1 % of the population
Causes of Abnormal Cellular Discharge :
Trauma (head injury, birth trauma, concussions )
    Oxygen deprivation (ischemia)
    Tumors
    Infections (meningitis or encephalitis).
    Axonal sprouting after neuronal injury.
    Metabolic disorders (e.g. hypoglycemia).
    Genetic epilepsy.
    Drugs and alcohol
    After neurosurgery
    Febrile seizures (convulsions)
No specific causative factors can be found in more than 65% of the cases.

    Types of Epilepsy:

Based on the initial location of the brain involved and the manner in which it spreads to other areas, epilepsy h divided into:
    1. Partial (or focal or simple) epilepsy.
    2. General epilepsy.
    3. Unclassified seizures

    Re: seizures or epilepsy

After a neck injury in march 2010 I had the EEG of an epilieptic but no classic symptoms of it, just sometimes shaky hands, but I have had this all my life occasionally....
