Hi Physiobob,
I have a 2 and half year old boy in ICU with brain injury and has developed a decorticate rigidity type of pattern. He is very sensitive to changes in sensory nerves and goes into the decorticate position. Is there any risk of spinal cord injury due to unbalanced extensor muscle spaticity of the trunk?
I have applied a long leg cast with 90 degress flexion of the knees and ankles and positioning to avoid hip and back extension. Though the casting is unorthodox ..Is there any other way or splinting I can do to prevent the rigidity from causing complications in the spine?
