1 year old not rolling over or bearing weight

    Cerebral Palsy In Infancy
    Hey,
I have a child in my care who is jus over 1 year old. He hates lying on his stomach (we think this is disliked through previous negative experiences with
acid reflux while in this position) and therefore gets little tummy time. We are gradually trying to provide more with positive experiences. He is unable to roll over while on tummy/back, he is also unable to support his weight while on his tummy. Recenty, he has began bottom shuffling around small distances. I have tried helping him into kneeling positions but it looks painful to him, I have also tried to sit him on the edge of my knee with flat feet on the ground with as little support as possible, which is okay but he does need alot of support! Also, when he is picked up/ put down his legs stay in the same position, up high in a sitting position, Even when you put him near to the ground he does not put his legs down.Mum is on board and he will be visiting professionals soon, but I know these things take time and wondered if there are any specific exercises we can do with him to help? He has had his hips checked already and a few other general things and all is okay, first the peadiatrician said it would come within time, however we are quite concerned. Any help would be great, thanks!

    Dear fishpiewithcustard,

I suggest you go to the following site. Physiotherapy for children | skillsforaction.com On this site a very experienced paediatric physiotherapist has placed many exercises and information.
Of course you need to find out what is wrong with your child and go to the appropriate health professionals but in the mean time, look up what
my colleague has to say on this site.
I will move your mail to the paediatric section... you will probably get more respons there.

I hoop things work out well for you all.

    Esther

Re: 1 year old not rolling over or bearing weight

    Hi there,
it sounds like this little chap has some issues which need investigating. In the meantime there are some things you can work on to help facilitate his movement but can you tell me what his muscle tone is generally like (is he a floppy or stiff child) and what his general head control and sitting balance are like? best wishes
