Validity of using only the Mobility Section of the PEDI score

    Cerebral Palsy In Infancy
    Hi to all,

I was wondering if anybody has tried using a separate section from the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory, and if you would know if doing this is validated, so in other words would still be a standarized assessment tool.

We work on a school for children with special needs, for both intellectual and physically disabled childre, and we find quite difficult to find an assessment tool that would be applicable to our population. In our search we are considering as many options as possible, and we would really appreciate your help.

    Many thanks!!

    Hi there,

I got an answer to my question from another source. In case anyone was courious, yes, you can use individual domains of the Pediatric Evaluation of Discability Inventory. We'll have to try it out before we know for sure if it is what we are looking for.

I'm still searching for a usefull assessment tool for intelectual disability, so I would appreciate any tips... I might put a post on that topic later...

    Thanks for your interest,

    Eva

Re: Validity of using only the Mobility Section of the PEDI score

    Hi Dwijen,

The most broadly used assessment tool for assessing motor ability in CP is the GMFM (Gross Motor Function Measure). It is very comprehensive and a bit time consuming. Also, the patient must be able to understand and follow verbal comands. If your client has a learning difficulty, the issue gets more complicated and at present we do not know of a validated outcome measure that would be applicable. A good physical assessment template would be the SAROMM (spinal aligment and rom measure). You can download it from the canchild webpage, which is excelent for paediatric physio info, including CP. Here is the link to the SAROMM: http://www.canchild.ca/Portals/0/out...FINALAug26.pdf

    Hope this is of help.
    Regards

    Eva
