    Brief Medical History Overview

    Unhappy Supinator injury

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
Last summer, through swinging a heavy hammer for a long period of time during a demolition project, I injured my the supinator of my left forearm (I am left handed). At first this was quite painful when typing, but now the pain is nearly gone for light activities, but I am still hampered under heavy load.

I am a hobbyist weight lifter and rock climber and this is hampering me quite a bit. I was wondering if there were anything to do beyond active stretching and self massage (I really have to dig in there with my right thumb to get under the finger extensors) that I can do to speed the healing.

The pain under load (30lb +) is directly over the deep branch of the radial nerve, and I can trigger a similar pain by pressing into the muscle with my right thumb quite hard.

Have you done any strengthening?? If not, look in to eccentric strengthening of supinator and of extensors.

It may be prudent to recommend a formal assessment. The hand is a very sensitive structure.

Locally, hand therapist clinics are very common. These therapists usually specialize specifically in the hand (and arm), as there is need to understand the anatomy, the neurology, and functionality of the joint.
