    Brief Medical History Overview

    Achillies problem after starting cycling

    Physical Agents In Rehabilitation
    Hiya,

I play football and need to lose about a stone in weight. I recently started cycling and stupidly went up a steep hill on my first few outings. I soon started to notice my achillies were really sore in the mornings almost causing me to walk flat footed. I havent been able to play football since and after resting totally for a few weeks they are still uncomfortable. I have not been to my doctor yet as I know it will take a while to be reffered to a physio. I would love some advice and details of stretching excercises if appropriate.

    thanks in advance.

    Go and see your doctor

    Posting as a layman.
I developed tendonitis as a runner 15 years ago.
Stiff or sore tendon in the morning, crepitus feeling in the tendon.
The advice from a physio was friction massage on the tendon.
Finger and thumb massage each side of the tendon for 10 minutes in the morning and evening.
Friction massage stimulates blood supply to the area.
Do the massage on the most painful area.
    Repeat daily until pain free.

The tendon has a poor blood supply.
Swimming is good exercise and easy on tendons.
